Lauren, New York

Lauren is a Account Associate at Asset Management, New York

How did you come to join Lazard?

I came to join Lazard after two years in financial analysis and product control roles within JP Morgan’s Corporate & Investment Bank. My internship during college was in asset management, and that is where my interest started. I knew I wanted to jump into asset management, specifically in a client-facing role, after my rotational program. After developing connections with my colleagues during my internship, in what was an equivalent to the Financial Institutions Group team, I saw an opportunity at Lazard and knew it was the right role for me. The Key Account Associate position utilizes a combination of skills I learned from my previous roles and allows me to continue my professional development. Lazard is a collaborative, innovative and prestigious organization – I am happy to be part of a great team and firm!

What is the most exciting and rewarding part of your job?

The most exciting and rewarding part of my job is the consistent learning curve. Every day brings something new and allows me to further my learning about the industry. Additionally, with the work I do, I can see how I add value to my team and ultimately strengthen client service. I also enjoy the collaborative environment across the Key Account team, the Financial Institutions Group and Lazard Asset Management.

What advice would you share with someone considering a career at Lazard?

I would give the advice of always saying “yes.” You never know when you will be brought in on a deliverable or project that will help you learn something new or spark innovative thinking to ultimately help your team. Also, I would also encourage involvement in the many employee resource groups at Lazard. For example, I have recently become a committee member for LEAD, an organization that focuses on fostering “a culture that actively invests in its employees, build on personal and professional development, and facilitate internal mobility and networking, with the goal of ultimately increasing employee engagement.”

What is unique about Lazard?

The opportunities and exposure to various teams across the organization are what makes Lazard unique. The flat, innovative, and open-door culture trickles down from senior management. I feel comfortable to ask questions and share ideas in meetings. I also am given exposure to other teams outside of my own, such as portfolio managers and client portfolio managers.
