The Summer Analyst Program
Lazard’s Summer Analyst Program is a nine-week program that offers a unique experience for rising university seniors. Our classes are hired with an ultimate goal of converting each intern into a full-time hire for the following year.
Placement
Internships are offered in each of our offices across the U.S.:
New York: Interns will be hired directly into one of the following: M&A/Restructuring, Capital Markets Advisory and Private Capital Advisory. Within M&A/Restructuring, interns will have the opportunity to work on projects across various industries with the help of a staffer dedicated to ensuring a well-rounded internship experience. The program is customized to ensure a thorough understanding of the firm’s offerings.
All other U.S. internship programs are defined by industry:

San Francisco: Healthcare or Technology
Training and Development
At the start of the internship program, a one-week formal training is held in New York City, for all participants across the U.S. This is in addition to pre-work assigned to all interns. Training will continue throughout the summer within each region, and interns will receive mentors at the Associate and Analyst level to ensure a robust internship experience. Social events are part of each intern’s program, regardless of location, in an effort to better assimilate into the culture of our office.
Role and Responsibilities
Day-to-day activities of Summer Analysts vary, but will include: financial analysis and modeling, company and industry research, participating in the development of client presentations, and interactions with senior bankers and clients.
Qualifications and Skills
- Students in the penultimate year of university may apply – Interested students who are seniors or enrolled in a Master’s/graduate program are permitted to submit as well
- Top academic performer who is willing to work hard in a formal, unstructured environment
- Educational background may vary, from business through liberal art
- Must have a passion for financial concepts and enjoy quantitative work in addition to strategic thinking

The Summer Associate Program
The Summer Associate Program is a ten-week internship for students in their penultimate year of MBA, law, or graduate school. We hire the class with the goal of offering successful candidates a full-time opportunity to join the firm upon graduation.

Training and Development
Summer Associates participate in a one-week intensive and comprehensive training program in New York City. Summer Associates receive both a junior mentor (within their group) and a senior mentor (outside of their group), along with a dedicated staffer to oversee each individual’s internship experience. Additionally, the Summer Associate Program includes various social events with bankers across the Firm to provide ample networking opportunities.
Role and Responsibilities
Day-to-day activities of Summer Associates are dependent on their prior experiences and abilities, and may include: financial analysis and modeling, creation and preparation of client presentations, and interaction with clients, among other tasks.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of 2-3 years of prior work experience, preferably in financial services
- Currently matriculated at a MBA or other Master’s/graduate program and within 1-2 years of graduation
- Top academic performer who is comfortable in an unstructured environment which values initiative, creativity, maturity, and poise
- Strong quantitative background and analytical skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills

Lazard’s Internship program offers a unique experience for students interested in starting their Investment Banking career.
An internship with Lazard is an excellent way of gaining a better understanding of the nature of our business and the culture of our firm. It will allow you to experience the role of an Analyst, while observing colleagues operating at every level in our business.
Our internship program has been designed to incorporate as many aspects of the role of an Analyst as possible, including involvement on active projects, with opportunities for increased responsibility, accountability and visibility on small deal teams. Specifically, our aim for your internship with Lazard is for you to:
- Receive firsthand, in-depth knowledge of the business
- Gain practical experience of the type of work you would complete as an Analyst

Frankfurt and Munich offer 10-12 week internships to undergraduate and postgraduate students year-round. Successful interns may be extended full-time offers to join the firm as Analysts upon graduation. Considering this, applicants should be within one year of completion of their studies (bachelor or master).

Summer Internship (for penultimate year students only)
Our ten-week Summer Internship programme is an excellent way of gaining a better understanding of the nature of our business and the culture of our firm in an Analyst role. Specifically, our aim for your internship with us is for you to receive first hand, in-depth knowledge of the business, gain practical Analyst experience, understand Lazard's culture and working style, and for us to provide an excellent networking opportunity with bankers of all levels of experience. Our programme commences in late June and is open to undergraduate or postgraduate students in their penultimate year of study.

Role and Responsibilities
Interns will be assigned to a number of sector or product teams for the duration of the ten-week programme, ensuring a broad experience by providing exposure to different teams, bankers and clients. You will be involved in real work for real clients, so not only will you gain invaluable practical experience, you will have exposure to a network of senior finance experts who will be on hand to share their experiences with you and to offer you support and guidance.
Training and Development
You will be assigned an Analyst “buddy” to coach you throughout the internship, and a senior mentor to give you further insight into Lazard, and a potential career within Investment Banking. As part of the ten-week internship, you will attend one week of technical training before joining your team and will also receive follow-up technical and presentation skills training during the programme.
A Lazard Summer Internship can lead to a full-time placement offer for the following year’s Analyst programme. During the final week of the internship, you will be asked to give a ten-minute presentation to a panel of senior bankers. Your presentation, along with your performance during the internship, will determine if an offer will be extended to you.

Spring Insight Programme
Our Spring Insight Programme will take place during March/April 2023 and is open to undergraduate students in the first year of a three-year degree or the second year of a four-year degree, graduating in 2025.

Training and Development
Our three-day programme consists of a number of interactive banker-led sessions based on Lazard transactions, as well as a number of skills workshops. You will have the opportunity to spend an afternoon work shadowing an Analyst to learn, observe and to be part of a real deal team. Furthermore, the programme will provide you with many networking opportunities with bankers at all levels, through various social events. Successful attendees of the programme will have the opportunity to be fast tracked through the application process for our ten-week internship in the summer of 2024.

Industrial Placement Programme
Our London office offers a unique and organised 12 month industrial placement experience starting in August/September 2023.
You will be engaged in many aspects of our advisory work providing support to the analysts in our product and sector teams. Day to day responsibilities will generally include:
- financial and statistical analyses
- company and industry sector research
- creation of client presentations and marketing materials
- ad-hoc administration and project work
A specially tailored training programme will be provided so that regardless of your field of study, you will have a strong base of knowledge and training to build upon over the course of the placement. On-going support and other learning and development opportunities will also be available.
We are looking for individuals who are analytical, intellectually curious, enthusiastic, driven, hardworking, and eager to learn. In return, the industrial placement at Lazard will not only provide you with a solid insight into our business but meaningful work experience that will strengthen your attention to detail, your ability to synthesize large amounts of information, your MS Office skills and many other technical and interpersonal skills.

Our Industrial Placement Programme is open to undergraduate students in their second year of a four-year degree, graduating in 2025, where the third year is spent in industry. We welcome and encourage applications from all degree disciplines and universities. We appreciate the strong transferrable skills that students from these disciplines can bring. In the field of Mergers & Acquisitions, Lazard Milan offers three and six-month year-round internship position.
Our aim is to provide you with in the field experience in Corporate Finance and Investment Banking, developing financial, market and company analysis and basic valuation techniques.
Ideal candidates are undergraduate or postgraduate students with an outstanding academic background in business economics or in another discipline with a focus on economics.
