Summer Analyst Internship Program

The Summer Analyst Internship Program offers a unique experience for rising students between their junior and senior years who are interested in starting their career in Investment Banking. During the ten-week program, Summer Analysts gain invaluable experience through a combination of training, mentoring, and assignment on active projects allowing them the opportunity for increased responsibility, accountability, and visibility on deal teams. We hire Summer Analysts with a goal of offering successful candidates a full-time opportunity to join the firm upon graduation.

Role and Responsibilities

Summer Analysts will work directly with Managing Directors, Directors, Vice Presidents and Associates in the M&A process. In most assignments, the Summer Analyst will assist in the following:

  • Preparation of new business presentations
  • Business research
  • Valuation analysis
  • Improving the quality and timeliness of all client-related work
  • Preparation of Confidential Offering Memoranda
  • Spreadsheet, business plan, budget and forecast preparation and analysis

Training and Development

At the start of the internship program, a three-day formal training program is held in Minneapolis for all participants across the U.S. This is in addition to pre-work assigned to all interns. Training continues throughout the summer within each region and social events are also part of each intern's program, regardless of location, in an effort to better assimilate into the culture of our office.

Qualifications and Skills

Qualified candidates typically possess a combination of the following attributes:

  • Strong undergraduate academic performance
  • Background in accounting, finance, or economics preferred, but not required
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to work a demanding schedule
  • Highly motivated, with a strong desire to be the “best of the best”

Placement

We host a generalist M&A program, where interns have the opportunity to explore different groups through project assignments in various industry groups.

New York: M&A (Business Services, Healthcare, Retail and Direct Marketing), Restructuring

Summer Associate Internship Program

The Summer Associate Internship Program offers students in their penultimate year of MBA, law, or graduate school an opportunity to experience the Lazard environment for ten weeks. We hire Summer Associates with a goal of offering successful candidates a full-time opportunity to join the firm upon graduation.

Role and Responsibilities

The Summer Associate serves as a key member of the deal team, working directly with Managing Directors, Directors, Vice Presidents and Analysts on engagements. The Summer Associate will be given significant responsibility and will gain in-depth transaction experience, client exposure, negotiation skills, and an understanding of transaction structures. In most M&A assignments, the Summer Associate will participate in the following:

  • Preparation and participation in new business presentations
  • Business research
  • Valuation analysis and financial modeling
  • Preparation of Confidential Offering Memoranda
  • Development of potential buyer lists
  • Preparation of management presentations
  • Interaction with clients and potential buyers
  • Development, training, and mentoring of analysts
