Frankfurt Intern Recruitment Process 2019: Stage-by-Stage Guide

Thank you for your interest in applying to Lazard Frankfurt. The recruitment process has been designed to test and challenge you, as well as to give you the opportunity to find out more about Lazard. It also aims to give you the chance to learn more about our people and their careers and work at Lazard.  As you progress through the process you will also have the opportunity to meet people within the business with various backgrounds and experience. Please take the time to read our website as this will give you a good idea about the types of tasks you will be expected to complete and the types of strengths, skills and behaviours you will need to consistently demonstrate on a regular basis. 

 

Frankfurt internship process

Stage 1 + 2 - Online Application + Pre-Screening

We ask that you complete an online profile, through Taleo, which includes questions relating to grades, skills, work experience and language skills. You may submit more than one application for an Intern role in any given year. As we offer internship positions all year round you might be available for more than just one period. But keep in mind your availability for a possible full-time position following an internship as stated above. Please ensure that your phone number and email address are correct as this is the only way we can contact you.  Please include as much information as possible in your application including grades from school, university and further education. You will be updated via email (please check junk/spam folders just in case). Your Taleo profile is live so you can update it at any time. We endeavour to process your application in a timely manner.

Stage 3 - Online Assessment - Situational Judgement Test (SJT)

After a pre-screening of your application, successful candidates will be asked to complete an online Situational Judgement Test (SJT). Please ensure you have a stable internet connection before you get started. If you are successful in passing the SJT, you will be invited to a Video Assessment. You will be given 7 days to complete both assessments. If you have already passed the SJT or Video Assessment as part of your application to another Lazard location in the last six months, you do not need to retake the test. Please email our team under the aforementioned address so that we can advise on how your application can be progressed. If you have already failed the SJT, you can only retake this test after a period of six months. The SJT is a test that presents you with different scenarios that you might face at Lazard and asks you to decide on the most effective and the least effective course of action. The SJT has been specifically designed to provide you with a realistic preview of what it is like to work at Lazard and has been tested with existing employees. It tests your natural ability to analyse situations and make decisions, to think about the implications of your actions and weigh up the best course of action. It also tests your approach to working and collaborating with others, communicating with others and your ability to work quickly through specific job related problems. The test should take you between 20-30 minutes to complete and it is not timed. But there are “right” and “wrong” answers which assess your overall fit for Lazard against our success criteria and values.

In order to work through the SJT as effectively as possible, you should try to:

  • Be yourself and go with your first natural response. We want to understand who you are and what value you will add to Lazard. Please try not to think about the scenarios for too long; it is more effective to read the scenario and go with your first reaction or natural response to what you think is the most effective and least effective course of action.
  • Read each scenario properly and in detail. Please take time to read each scenario properly, ensuring that you understand the task or the situation in order to be able to give your natural response. If you rush through the questions too quickly, you may misinterpret something or misunderstand the scenario posed to you and therefore provide an incorrect answer.
  • Familiarise yourself with Lazard, our values, and the type of work we specialise in. You can’t practice for a Situational Judgement Test as it assesses your judgement and decision making skills, and your fit for our specific organisation and culture. However, reading our website, familiarising yourself with what we do and the role you have applied for will help you complete the test. You should try to make sure you have done some background reading and preparation on what it is like to work for Lazard and who we are as an organisation before taking the test.

Stage 4 - Online Assessment – Video Assessment

If you are successful in passing the SJT, you will be invited to participate in a short Video Assessment. The Video Assessment should not take longer than 15-20 minutes (excluding preparation time) and will focus on some interview style questions around your motivation, cultural fit and interest in our organisation and the industry. You are encouraged to draw upon your past experiences and situations where you have best demonstrated particular competencies.  You will be assessed against a number of core competencies that we know are crucial in successful Analysts (former Lazard Frankfurt Interns). To help you prepare for the interview questions in the Video Assessment, we recommend you take full advantage of interview workshops that your university career services centre may run, as this will give you invaluable practice and feedback.

It is important you undertake the Video Assessment in an environment where you can stand or sit comfortably to answer the questions. You should make sure you are in a quiet room where you will be free from background noise, distractions or interruptions for the duration of the Assessment. You should treat the Video Assessment in the same way as you would an in-person interview by presenting yourself smartly, however you do not need to be in business attire.  

Please be aware that given the volume of applications we review, you should expect to wait up to two weeks after completing the Video Assessment before receiving an update on your application progress.

Stage 5 - Interviews

Those candidates who are shortlisted from the Video Assessment will be invited to a Personal Interview Round with four of our bankers (mostly Analysts and Associates, sometimes VPs). These interviews will take place on an afternoon and will last approximately 4 hours. They typically cover a range of different competencies, questions around Lazard, the financial markets, world affairs and some technical financial questions. Candidates will also be provided with further interview preparation guidance. We are just as interested in your personality and individuality as we are about your academic and extra-curricular achievements.

We will reimburse your reasonable travel expenses for attending the interviews (copies of receipts are required for accounting purposes).

If you are successful in the interviews, we will make you a verbal offer, followed thereafter by a written contract.  You will have 10 days to accept and return a signed copy of the contract.

FAQs

You have not found a vacancy for Lazard Frankfurt?

In case you cannot find an opening for Frankfurt, we have already filled all vacancies for the upcoming months or are still selecting and reviewing the candidates that have already applied. 
Although we have no application deadlines, we recommend that you apply at least 6 months in advance of the internship.

When is the ideal time for an internship at Lazard Frankfurt?

Since we intend to fill all our Analyst positions from our pool of interns, you should be available for full-time entry as follows:
